Massachusetts Eye Doctor on Ways to Prevent Vision Loss from Diabetic Problems

Written by admin on Oct 31st, 2013 | Filed under: Press Releases

Lancaster, Massachusetts (10/31/2013) Massachusetts Ophthalmologist Francis D’Ambrosio, Jr., M.D. advised patients with diabetes to take an active diligent role in preventing vision loss from diabetic eye disease problems, such as diabetic retinopathy, with regular dilated eye exams and health lifestyle choices. “Our clinical experience suggests that with thorough dilated eye exams at regular intervals, along with advanced diagnostic testing, the vision loss from diabetes related eye problems such as diabetic retinopathy can be prevented if we catch them early and provide proper treatment,” commented Dr. D’Ambrosio Jr. “What is very concerning-and really troubling-is that more than a third of patients diagnosed with diabetes do not adhere to vision care guidelines recommending a dilated eye exam every year,” he stressed. “November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month. We are urging all patients with diabetes to have a dilated eye exam every year in order to give us the opportunity to help them prevent the vision loss and consequences of diabetic retinopathy,” he reiterated.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, diabetes affects approximately 26 million people in the United States. Recent data from the Prevent Blindness America Vision Problems in the U.S. report confirms that diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness in adults 20-74 years of age. There are almost 8 million people ages 40 and older who have diabetic retinopathy, a complication characterized by a weakening of  blood vessels in the  retina so that they break down,  causing the retina to swell, hemorrhage and become deprived of oxygen and nutrients, ultimately leading to vision loss. This represents an 89 percent increase in incidence between the years 2000-2012. Although there is no cure for diabetic eye disease, annual eye exams for diabetes patients are essential to help slow the progression of the disease.

“We would expect some increase in the incidence of a number of eye problems and diseases with the aging of the baby boomers. However, there is real concern about the serious epidemic of diabetes in the U.S. as we can see it driving a meaningful spike in the number of cases of diabetic retinopathy. For sure prevention of diabetic eye disease requires regular dilated eye exams each year. But in addition there are ways patients can reduce their risk of diabetes related problems through healthy lifestyle choices. For example patients can not start or stop smoking,  they can control their cholesterol, lipid profile and blood pressure, as well as to eating a heart-healthy diet rich in fish, fruit and green leafy vegetables along with exercising,” advised  Dr. D’Ambrosio, Jr.

D’Ambrosio Eye Care is a leading eye and LASIK practice serving the greater Boston and central Massachusetts area including Acton, Athol, Berlin, Bolton, Boylston, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Clinton, Concord, Fitchburg, Gardner, Greenfield, Groton, Harvard, Hudson, Lancaster, Leominster, Lexington, Littleton, Lowell, Lunenburg, Marlborough, Milford, Shelburne Falls, Shirley, Sterling, Stow, Sudbury, Templeton, Westminster, Westborough, Winchendon and Worcester, Massachusetts.

Storage Guardian Announces Cloud Backup Support for Google Apps

Written by admin on Oct 30th, 2013 | Filed under: Press Releases

October 31, 2013 – Storage Guardian is pleased to announce the ability to back up and restore Google Apps as part of its latest cloud backup software solution, giving the Company’s Google Apps users increased
security and full control of their data.

An increasing number of businesses are utilizing SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) based applications such as Google Apps to manage, share and store information. In 2012, analyst group Forrester estimated that global cloud computing market would grow from $35 billion in 2011 to around $150 billion by 2020.

Considering the dramatic increase in cloud computing, and the fact that Google Apps backs up data but is not ultimately responsible for restoring it for its customers, Storage Guardian added this functionality to eliminate the need for customers to employ multiple backup solutions to handle data that resides outside its data center.

It also effectively ensures customers who ultimately migrate off Google Apps don’t leave their crucial data behind.

“The ability for Storage Guardian to safeguard Google Apps data for our customers is a very exciting step in our evolution as a world-class, cloud-based data recovery specialist,” says Dave Minns of Storage Guardian.

“This effectively extends the level of control our customers have over data that typically resides exclusively in 3rd party data centers, without having to touch their backup architecture.  We believe this is a necessary component of a comprehensive physical, virtual, mobile, and cloud-based data protection solution.”

Storage Guardian can now backup and restore business documents, emails, calendars, contacts and more from Googe Apps, and easily retrieve any information that has been edited, deleted or corrupted.

In addition to Google Apps, Storage Guardian provides support to other Tier One cloud applications, including IBM SmartCloud and

Digital Kiosks Revolutionize Charleston Tourism

Written by admin on Oct 29th, 2013 | Filed under: Press Releases

Intuitive kiosks connect tourists to their favorite sights and restaurants through Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

CHARLESTON, S.C. —Charleston, South Carolina is America’s top travel destination according to Conde Nast Traveler[1], and tourists to this beautiful city are becoming acquainted with a new digital concierge that delivers top-notch service and information. Meet Charles, the bow tie clad kiosk becoming a fixture in downtown Charleston. Charles aims to be as charming as the city it serves as it personalizes each tourist’s getaway.

Using a smart camera, Charles determines whether it’s serving a couple on a weekend trip or a family of four looking for kid-friendly options. Tourists can use the kiosk to print maps, book hotels, peruse local fare or buy carriage and boat tour tickets. Charles serves up information free of charge but is equipped with a secure credit or debit card swipe in case a tourist wishes to take advantage of advertised deals.

Rolled out in 2011 by the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, the six-foot tall, touchscreen kiosks now number nearly 50 throughout the city. Placed outside restaurants, hotels and visitor’s centers, Charles connects tourists to the experiences they seek in real time, using Verizon’s 4G LTE wireless Internet connection for speed and reliability.

Local businesses also benefit in a big way. Charles delivers real time analytics to advertisers, providing a dashboard that shows the effectiveness of each ad. Business owners can change their advertised prices and promotions, or track sales remotely from their desktop computer or mobile device.

“We were one of the first businesses to advertise with Charles,” said David Compton, owner of the Old South Carriage Company in downtown Charleston. “Charles has changed the tourism industry in this city, and it’s making things easier than ever for people who come for a visit.”

Charleston-based City Corridor created Charles to replace the cluttered wall of travel brochures that are a mainstay at visitor’s centers. Charles eliminates the need to page through multiple brochures, instead offering information and deals based on an interactive menu of choices. The company may expand and place kiosks in other cities in the future, but for now, Charles will continue to serve those walking Charleston’s centuries-old cobblestone streets.

Best Music For Halloween: Nikki Lynn Katt’s Halloween Anthem and new album on

Written by admin on Oct 29th, 2013 | Filed under: Press Releases

Every October the search begins for good Halloween party music.  There are just a few “go-to” songs:  Thriller, Monster Mash and Dead Man’s party.  Apart from these standards, the one real standout Halloween song in the last 10 years is Nikki Lynn Katt’s cult classic Halloween comedy rock anthem “This Halloween”.  It is a song that pays tribute to that one day every year when all ladies have an excuse to dress as slutty as they possibly can and celebrates the ladies who take the opportunity to do so.

The music video for “This Halloween” was featured on MTV’s “Total Request Live”, Fuse’s “The Sauce” and has received millions of hits combined on various digital content platforms.  Katt just re-released the video in both censored and uncensored versions on YouTube in higher resolutions for better image quality than was previously available, and they are gaining thousands more hits every minute as we get closer to the big day.

But what is Nikki Lynn Katt doing now?  She is making a new comedy music album entitled “Dance Your Hate Away”, which is currently being successfully crowd funded on  Her Kickstarter campaign video is both hilarious and hot.  She even does some sexy burlesque dancing in it.  A “must see”, the video can be found on her Kickstarter campaign page here:

If you want to include “This Halloween” in your Halloween playlist (as you should), you can always purchase the song on iTunes, but if you purchase it through her Kickstarter campaign page, for only $1 you get “This Halloween” along with 7 other previously released tracks.

We may know Nikki Lynn Katt best here in the US as the edgy LA comic responsible for “This Halloween”, but internationally she is a bit of a cult comedy music legend, especially in comedy circuits in Australia and the UK.  Her song “Don’t Forget About the Balls” reached number 55 on Australia’s iTunes Top 100 Comedy Songs Chart, beating out tracks by some of her idols, including The Lonely Island, Adam Sandler and Weird Al.  She is popular worldwide for her brand of sexually risqué, yet sweet and innocent delivery of comedy music and stand-up.  True to form, Katt has come up with some eyebrow raising, yet commendably enterprising, pledge rewards for the crowd funding of her new album.

“Dance Your Hate Away”, blends Katt’s previously stripped-down comedy songs with electronic dance inspired pop, making her the female answer to The Lonely Island and Ylvis.  The endeavor into this new genre for Katt is taking her sexual angst and tortured soul-filled comedy music from sounding like a camp fire song to sounding like a big huge party that is making her fans want to dance their hate away.

Nikki Lynn Katt’s biographical information, music videos and more can be found by visiting her website:

The new “Dance Your Hate Away” album is available for pre-order by visiting and searching “Nikki Lynn Katt Dance Your Hate Away” before sales close on Sunday, November 3rd at midnight, Pacific Time, or by clicking here:

In the meantime, if your Halloween playlist does not currently include Nikki Lynn Katt’s “This Halloween“, you should make sure to add it immediately.
